PERIODONTAL DISEASE

We all know what periodontal disease is. We can also assume what causes and/or largely contributes to the gingival/periodontal status of our patients.


Ultimately, when the gingiva fails to remain healthy and chronic disease arises - even if something systemically underlying is showing - it's up to us to educate and do our best to get these cases under control.


Although most of the time the oral hygiene of an individual can help, it's not always the largest component to a healthier periodontium. Unfortunately, in some cases it's due to other contributing factors our patients may not even be aware of medically. As we may know and the knowledge comes easy to us, but our patients aren't dental professionals and sometimes it's hard to ditch the dental lingo and educate our patients.

It's important for us to be aware of the new technologies, research and studies that help us come to our hygiene diagnosis and ultimately - improve our patients oral hygiene and their overall health.



We can all learn, educate and help each other, and be a team. No matter how far or how long our career has lasted. Experience is surely an asset, and everyone will get there - continuing education is what makes us and allows us to grow.
